What fun

Okay to catch up, hope I get everything.

The Young at Heart Festival. This marks the beginning of summer and never ending running, lol. It happens every Memorial Day weekend. Starts on Friday, ends on Monday. And it is about a three minute walk from the house. The boys just absolutely loved it.

So we have our game plan for the weekend. Seeing it is sooo close to the house, we have no choice but to go and go often. We get home that Friday night and you can hear the music and see some of the rides. Trenton and Nathan are just begging to go. So we tell then we have to eat dinner and clean out the wagon and we will head over. Woohoo!!! They are screaming and running and dancing, lol.

So we head over, and we tell Trenton that he needs to help Nathan here and there as this will be Nathan's first year of riding rides. We planned on riding rides, then grabbing a snack and heading home as the sun went down. So much for those plans.

The boys start riding the rides. The bouncing castle, the mini roller coaster, the elephants, the balloons, the train, the carousel, and then the teacups. Tis the teacups where all hell breaks loose. They were getting off the teacups and I was trying to get Nathan's attention as he was going the wrong way (just thinking about this makes my tummy turn). So Trenton saw that Nathan was going the opposite direction and tried to get him. As he reached for him, Nathan turned and all Trenton did was get a hold of his shirt. And then it happened. Nathan fell, and he screamed. I said "Shit!" (this is important, lol) and then I grabbed him and saw blood. Nothing else just blood, and he was screaming, I knew it was bad and the next thing I said was "Oh Shit!" really loud. Some lady says don't use that language and I think I sent about 4000 daggers her way. Lady, my kid is screaming and bleeding, fuck off. (HA! that told her)

I have no clue where first aid is, and neither did the carnis (who were dipshits anyways). So I grabbed Nathan and pressed his head to my chest and went running. I stopped for second to gather my direction and prayed that I was going the right way. Well, apparently I stopped right next to the firefighters association tent and thank god I did. I must have looked really frightened, plus I had blood all over me (was wearing a halter top type shirt, but better looking, lol. exposed much upper skin though) and they come running out. Now here is where I really freak out.

The first fireman takes Nathan (hugs him to help calm him down) from me, the second asks his name. Then they pull Nathan back so they can see his lip. OMFG his lip is totally split in half. I freaked out. They said lets go and I just start running after him. Run into Scott in this mess and yell follow me. We get to the first aid tent and I start to hyperventilate.

Anyways, they check him out, and get one of their golf cart thingys and Nathan and Scott head over to the walk-in clinic across the street. The paramedic comes over and tells me she saw no damage to his teeth or gums and that a few stitches and he will be fine. I, of course, in tears, but now a little more calm, say okay and turn to walk to go home, get the car and go to the clinic. She says wait and then says I need to be cleaned off. Huh? And I look down. I am covered, covered, in blood. Then I realize one very important thing.

Where is Trenton?

Apparently, he has been attached to my side this whole time. Poor thing. He, at this point, doesn't realize how hurt Nathan is, and asks to go on the rides, as I say we have to go home. And I say one more. He rides, I then tell him we have to go home and I have to go to the clinic to get daddy and Nathan. He looks confused. Then I tell him how bad Nathan is hurt and Trenton starts to cry. You see, he thinks he did this to Nathan.

He says that he was supposed to be watching Nathan and that he was not a very good big brother to allow him to get hurt and all that. OMG, I wanted to cry for him then. I felt really really bad for Trenton. He felt so bad, that he told me, that he did not ever wanna go bad to the festival. Ugh.

So we get home and my next door neighbor, Terry, is outside. Perfect. Terry watches Trenton while I head up to the clinic. On the way, I call my mom and dad to come over and keep Trenton busy, so not to bother Terry too long.

I got there right as they were about to start the stitches, and I could not do it. I had to sit outside of the building, so I could not hear him, then the nurse came and got me when they were done. I go inside to this little boy, with a quivering lip (5 stitches in total 3 of which are in his actual lip, not the skin around it), and hair soaked with sweat, and body drenched with sweat. So I picked him and we are getting ready to leave, doc comes in tells us how to treat it, and then Nathan pipes up.

"I wanna go ride rides!!!" This cracks us all up, nurses and doc, included. It didn't detour him one bit. We tell him its late and we can ride tomorrow and we need to go see Trenton now.

We get back to the house, where Trenton and my mom and dad are outside playing. Trenton gives Nathan a hug and then turns to my mom. My mom says the look on his face was fear and sadness. He looks at her and says "Can I spend the night?" In a kind of tone of voice of shame, scared, nervous, upset. The poor baby.

So there was our first night at the Young at Heart Festival. Good times, I tell ya, good times.
